About Us

LA Family Support Services is a dedicated non-profit organization deeply rooted in the ethos of social advocacy. Our mission is to forge meaningful connections between individuals and the broader community, tailored to address intrinsic needs and aspirations.

Our commitment extends beyond mere assistance; we actively collaborate with a myriad of community resources, amplifying their potential and ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has the chance to thrive. By leveraging these vital resources, we pave pathways for self-liberation, ensuring everyone can tap into their potential and contribute positively to society.

Recognizing the richness in diversity, we cater to both immigrants and local communities. It's our belief that by bridging the existing gaps in understanding and communication, we can catalyze meaningful social and systemic transformations. This holistic approach not only promotes social justice but also strengthens community ties, fostering a culture of mutual respect and collaboration.

As we drive forward with our mission, the overarching goal remains clear: to create an environment where every individual feels a deep sense of acceptance, recognizes their value, and finds a place of belonging within the community. Through our concerted efforts, we hope to see both individuals and the community flourish, benefiting from shared knowledge, understanding, and growth.

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster deep and meaningful connections that empower the immigrant population towards greater self-reliance. Through dedicated advocacy and comprehensive education, we aim to fortify their sense of belonging within the community. By facilitating these bonds, we strive to not only enhance their self-sufficiency but also to enrich the tapestry of our diverse community, ensuring that every individual feels recognized, supported, and integral to the shared fabric of our society.

Our primary goal is to forge robust community connections, serving as a catalyst for both individual and collective development. By cultivating understanding and fostering healthy interactions, we aspire to create a vibrant community where every member thrives. Through these connections, we hope to bridge gaps, nurture mutual respect, and establish a foundation where every individual feels valued, understood, and empowered to contribute positively to the greater good of our community.

Our Vision

Our Founder

Ahmed Ali

Ahmed Ali's journey began in the sprawling confines of the Dadaab Refugee Camp in Kenya. Facing immense challenges from the onset of his life, destiny took a turn when he had the opportunity to relocate to the United States of Maine as a young refugee.

Lewiston became Ahmed's new home, where he embraced education with fervor. He proudly walked the halls of Lewiston High School as a student and later pursued higher education at the University of Maine. Here, he honed his passion and expertise, earning a bachelor's degree in Mental Health and Human Services.

With over a decade of dedicated service, Ahmed has made a profound impact in the lives of immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and the BIPOC communities in Lewiston, Auburn, and Portland, Maine. His role as a social services case manager provided him with the platform to offer support, understanding, and guidance to these communities.

Ahmed's founding of LA Family Support Services was more than just the inception of an organization; it was the realization of a vision. Drawing from his own poignant experiences as a refugee and immigrant, coupled with a deep understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by these communities, Ahmed sought to bridge gaps and offer tailored support. Through LA Family Support Services, Ahmed's aim has always been clear: to give back to and uplift the immigrant, refugee, and BIPOC communities in Maine, ensuring they find the support, acceptance, and opportunities they deserve.

"From the confines of Dadaab to the heart of Maine, every step of my journey has taught me one thing: when we bridge gaps, nurture understanding, and offer support, every immigrant and refugee can not only find a home but also build a future." - Ahmed Ali”
